WHATS THIS ALL ABOUT?
Starting January 1, 2005 (Global Family Day) "Think Globally, Act Locally" is no longer just a slogan.
We have signed on to a compelling idea that has launched January 1, 2005. And we would like to invite you, your affiliated organization(s) and members to join many others around the world in promoting to the public the following simple yet profound action:
Starting January 1, 2005 commit at least 10% of your money/resources or your time to working for a better world through groups and activities of your choice. This means starting your own special bank account with your own money and/or setting up a regular schedule for service and volunteer work.
GLOBAL THOUGHT
What matters in life is what we are all doing with our 10%! People will realize they can make a difference in this world.
Call this 10% account the "Do Good Account", "The Love Account", or the "Love thy Neighbor" account. Once one opens this account they will be on a higher level of consciousness.
This account is separate from what people are currently spending their money on. It is not meant for Birthdays, Christmas, Chanukah, or Anniversary presents. Those are part of everyday life and therefore part of the 90%. The 10% puts everyone in a giving consciousness unlike all the ways they may be currently giving.
The value of this account is not just the money, but also the time you spend thinking about how you can use this money to make this world a better place. People will talk about the ways they are using their money to help. Conversations at parties will be along the lines of - What are you doing with your 10%? In this area we all start out equal!
Once people start giving, they will get it back! It will be like a drug that increases people's seratonin levels. Organizations (like We, The World) will offer resources that can help people find ways to put the money to use. United we will start realizing that we can make a difference.
More people will become involved in a volunteer capacity with this new mindset. Volunteer-based social service organizations will help teach people how to help themselves. New creative free programs like mentoring programs will be started by volunteers realizing that they can make a difference.
Eventiually, businesses may also set aside 10% of their money or time to help bring about a better world. It starts with yourself - One person at a time!
