Registration Deadline Approaching
Construction Challenge is a great way to inspire students and expose them to diverse career opportunities. At 15 Regional Rallies located across the US and Canada, teams of middle and high school students compete in three separate educational activities in a single day. Teams bring their own research to solve real-life problems, and they can win prizes that include scholarships and internships. Teams are signing up quickly, so register online today for the Regional Rally near you!
Construction Challenge is an innovative workforce development competition designed to inspire and motivate youth to pursue technical education programs and career paths, particularly in construction and related manufacturing areas. With the anticipated national infrastructure projects of the incoming administration and the high numbers of retiring Baby Boomers, the construction industry is poised to add more than 1 million jobs by 2012. One of the student activities specifically involves local and international concerns in infrastructure—roads, bridges, highways, sewage, and water—that are being discussed as prime issues in the Obama administration’s economic recovery plan.
Regional rallies are being held February 7 in Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Cincinnati, Dallas, Denver, Kansas City (MO), Milwaukee, Minneapolis, Enid (OK), Philadelphia, Phoenix, Sacramento, Seattle, and Toronto (ON). Deadline for team registrations is January 23. Any teams who register for Construction Challenge and mention this article will have their registration fee of $120 waived! More details and registration forms can be found at www.constructionchallenge.org.
America’s Promise Alliance Partner, Destination ImagiNation® (DI) created the program through sponsorship by the Association of Equipment Manufacturers (AEM) and hopes to build on the success of the 2008 Construction Challenge, which received the “Outstanding Achievement in Innovation in Business Solutions Award” from the International Association of Exhibitions and Events. More than 4,500 middle and high school students will participate in this year’s competition.
