Earlier this year, AARP supported the Edward M. Kennedy Serve America Act. This Act establishes September 11 as a National Day of Service and Remembrance, and asks all Americans to volunteer their time helping others in their communities. As a member of the Create The Good network, we know you care. The National Day of Service and Remembrance is a terrific opportunity to lend a helping hand and encourage others to participate.
Visit CreateTheGood.org to find local opportunities to get involved, as well as a variety of Do-It-Yourself Online Tool Kits that make volunteering fun and easy. Kits are designed for those that want to help a neighbor or family member, as well as those that want to organize a group to help. Topics include:
- Helping people get in shape and improve our nation’s overall health by starting a walking team.
- Ensuring that your community is ready for an emergency by preparing kits, duplicating documents and other important preparations.
- Assisting family, friends and neighbors maintain their independence in their own homes with Home Safety Tips and Tools.
